Bernestine Matthews Bachelor Sunday, February 16, 1964 - Sunday, July 16, 2017

Bernestine “Bonnie” Batchelor was born February 16, 1945 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Pearleen Jones and Solomen P. Yarbrough. The oldest of three children born to this union. She is preceded in death by her parents and both maternal and paternal grandparents, 4 brothers, William C. Carter, Velmon L. Mack, Larry Matthews, Joe D. Matthews. She moved to Kansas at an early age where she continued her education in the Kansas City, Kansas public school system.She worked as a Certified Medication Assistant in and around Kansas where she met and touched the lives of many which she called her friend. Bernestine met and married the love of her life, Edwin L. Batchelor. There were no children were born to this union. She professed Christ at an early age and was baptized and became a member of the Salem Baptist Church. She later became a member of Lakeside Church Of God In Christ where she served on several auxiliaries and was a faithful member. She leaves to cherish her memory, her faithful husband of 29 years, Edwin L. Batchelor of the home. One brother Kenneth E. Matthews Sr. (Lora) of Kansas City, Ks., 2 sisters, Betty M. Matthews, Kendra D. Yarbrough – Brinkley of Kansas City, Ks., 1 cousin/brother Lloyd L. Jacobs(Angela) of Bronx, NY., 3 nephews, Antonio Matthews, Kenneth E. Matthews Jr., Aaron Hogan (Monique), sister-in-law, Carolyn Matthews of Kansas City, Ks., 2 neices, Tenika Burton, Lakeisha Yarbrough and 4 adopted Grandchildren, which she was affectionately known as “Big Mama,”Keiana, Knautika, Jamaan, Solomen who were all the apple of her eye. And a host of great neices, nephews, cousins and friends. We give reverence to the dead through our service to the living.
